10 Easy Date-Night Hair Ideas

Polished loop
This loop requires a little patience and a few pins, but it's worth it. If you find yourself making plans for a lunch date or a straight-from-work event, "Natalie Portman's style is professional, yet it allows him to see your face because it's all swept back," says hairstylist Tommy Buckett. Create a deep side part, then work a dime-size amount of hair gel through strands to the ends (try Bumble and Bumble Bb Gel), brushing it back into a low, tight ponytail. Separate the ponytail into two sections. Fold the lower section under itself, pinning the ends to the roots of the hair. Then wrap the top layer around the base of the ponytail and secure with pins.

Sexy volume

Carrie Underwood's hair is "definitely touchable—and guys do want hair that they can run their fingers through," Buckett says. Start by running a dime-size amount of smoothing cream (try L'Oréal Paris Vive Pro Glossy Style Smooth Gloss Anti-Frizz Cream) through damp hair. Blow-dry with a round brush to create body, then wrap one-inch sections around a large-barrel curling iron, starting at ear level and wrapping hair away from the face. Break up the curls with your fingers, and finish with a mist of shine spray.

Sleek center part
Jennifer Lopez's casual style "is first-date hair," says Buckett. "You don't look like you're trying too hard, but it's still polished." To get hair this straight, smooth an anti-frizz serum, such as Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Polishing Serum, over damp hair before blow-drying it with a paddle brush. "Finish the hair off with a flatiron to make it look shinier and smoother," Buckett says.

Defined ringlets

"This style is an easy way to give naturally curly hair some definition and shape," says Buckett. Finger-comb curl cream through damp hair (the amount you use depends on how much hair you have, but don't be afraid to really use the product, Buckett says). We like Moroccanoil Intense Curl Cream. Let it air-dry, or blow-dry it using the diffuser, then polish curls with a small-barrel curling iron. Pick out the naturally existing coils, wrap them around the iron, then spray them with shine spray. "Don't shake it out with your fingers—you want these curls to be tight and bouncy," he says.

Kim Kardashian
Glamorous waves
"If your date is somewhere fancy—say a big party or a night at the theater—Kim Kardashian's glossy ripples are the perfect way to complement a great dress," says Buckett. After blow-drying hair with a round brush to create volume, create a deep side part. Set hair in hot rollers and let them cool for 15 minutes. Take them down, then comb out with a brush that's been spritzed with shine spray.

Breezy twist
To get Minka Kelly's flirty twist, Buckett suggests blow-drying hair with a round brush to create volume and a little wave by twirling the brush as you dry; tease the hair at the crown once you've finished. Separate hair into a middle part, then twist it and secure it with a few hairpins, letting the ends fall over the twist. Pull a few face-framing pieces loose, then finish with a mist of shine spray, such as Tresemmé Smooth No Frizz Shine Spray.

Short and shiny
On a short cut like Carey Mulligan's, focus on making hair look extra-glossy: "It's a really easy way to look pretty for a date," says Buckett. Blow-dry hair using a vented brush, then finish by misting hair with shine spray, such as Garnier Fructis Style Brilliantine Shine Glossing Spray, and brushing it through the ends

Wavy ponytail
For an activity-packed date, Blake Lively's ponytail is sporty and fun," says Buckett. Mist damp hair with a texturizing spray (try Fekkai Coiff Oceanique Tousled Wave Spray, then create a deep side part. Lightly tease the section of hair between the temples to add a little height, then secure hair into a tight ponytail just below the center of the head. "Tilt your head back as you do it so that when you straighten it, you won't have loose hair underneath the ponytail," he says. Wrap a one-inch section of hair around the base of the ponytail to disguise the hair elastic, then mist the tail with more spray and tousle it with your fingers for texture.

Romantic bun
"The romantic low bun Brittany Snow is wearing is great for special occasions where you need to be a little more dressed up," says Buckett. Start with side-parted hair. Gather it into a low ponytail, twist once, then wrap it into a loose bun. Run a dab of pomade (try Göt2b Defiant Define + Shine Pomade) through your fingers, then pull out a few front pieces from the bun.

Loose waves
Here's one good reason you should copy Zöe Saldana's hairstyle on your next date: "It's sexy, make-out hair," says Buckett. To get it, blow-dry your hair with a diffuser attachment. Then, working with one-inch sections, wrap hair around a medium-barrel curling iron, starting at ear level and leaving the ends out. Let the hair cool in coils, then flip your head over and shake them out into soft waves.
